About
There's something great about owning a pet, or having one as part of the
family.
Both Fraser and myself have grown up with a varied array of animals but owning a dog is something special. I always had 'Bitza's as home(bits of this and bits of that). Fraser grew up with Greyhounds and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
16 years ago we bought our first home together. I had big ideas of not owning any pets and being able to go to work with a black suit on and no dog hairs. It lasted for two months. Yes the house was hair-free but there seemed to be something missing. By pure chance Fraser's Aunt had bought a Basset Hound and when we went to see the pup, it was love at first sight. We rang the UK Basset Hound Club, who put us in touch with a breeder, who had just had a dog returned to them, in a pretty bad state. Harry came home with us and the following year, Mabel joined the household. We had them for 13 years. Two days after losing our last dog, we put our name down for a puppy basset, 'Boris.'
Boris is now four years old but little did he know, that the journey he made from the breeders to our house, wouldn't be his longest one. Two years ago, he made the trip from the UK to New Zealand, where his 'Mum' and 'Dad' had decided to live. We have another Basset who is a Kiwi, called Jock. We have been doing the show circuit here, for the past 6 months and enjoyed the friendly rivalry and competition.
Because we have experience in rescue, canine welfare and importing we would like to share our knowledge with other owners. We also felt that dog breeders and prospective owners sometimes need a hand in contacting each other. The new owners may also require help in understanding their new dog.
Why have we created a website for dogs? Well, we have met so many people that have the same interests, whether showing, breeding or just owning a dog. It's nice to keep in touch and make new contacts. Learn about new breeds, learning how to care for you new pup or being able to e-mail a friend to show them your new pet 'Bitza'. As the site progresses, more information will come on board and we would love to hear from the people using the site too. The running costs of the site, hopefully, will be met solely by the sponsors - so it will be free to all users. Free to upload your dogs and kennel's information and free to access these details for the general public. What will you have to lose?
We hope you enjoy the website..............
